The Honourable Mr. Justice Herman J. Wilton-Siegel was appointed to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Toronto in 2002.
Mr. Justice Wilton-Siegel was educated at the University of Toronto, Oxford University, which he attended as a Rhodes Scholar between 1971 and 1974, Dalhousie Law School and Harvard Law School.
He was called to the bar of Ontario in 1977 and spent his legal career at the firm now known as Torys LLP, becoming a partner in 1982. His practice was concentrated in the area of corporate and securities law, principally in financing and mergers and acquisitions.
During the period between 1988 and 1990, Mr. Justice Wilton-Siegel acted as the policy advisor to the Minister of Financial institutions for the Province of Ontario while on a sabbatical. Over the course of his career, he also served on a number of boards of directors including Dayton Mining Corporation, the Doctor’s Hospital and the Toronto Port Authority.
In early 2001, he joined Centrica Canada (the North American subsidiary of Centrica Inc., which is the parent company of British Gas and one of the largest global suppliers of gas and electricity) as Senior Vice-President and General Counsel for North America.
Since his appointment to the Superior Court, Mr. Justice Wilton-Siegel has been an active member of the Commercial list of the Court as well as a member of the Divisional Court, an appellate division of the Superior Court.
Born in Toronto, Mr. Justice Wilton-Siegel is married to Madam Justice Alison Harvison Young and has a daughter and a step-daughter as well as four grandchildren.
